16 Mar Internet Safety – Are you oversharing?
Please take a moment to watch this video about internet safety. It’s a wake up call and a reminder to be cautious about what we share online and to be aware of the security settings on accounts.
Is your full date of birth visible on Facebook and LinkedIn? What about ‘checking in’ places every time you buy a coffee, or arrive at work or the gym? Is posting online your day to day movements a risk to personal safety? Are you oversharing and leaving yourself open to identity fraud?
We all have a level of sharing we are comfortable with. Social media is very like the rush hour train you get to work each morning. Some people are passengers, physically there but definitely not willing to engage. Then there’s that annoying woman who spreads her confidential documents across the table and you can’t help but notice the names and numbers on the private papers. Or the dude who phones his best mate the moment he gets on board and spills all the juicy details of the stag weekend. Mate, you’ll never believe what Dave got up to….
Who is listening and who is watching? Probably you don’t know, maybe it matters, maybe it doesn’t. The difference with the internet and social media is that it’s accessible to masses. Wise up, check your settings and protect personal information.
